Why Molybdenum is a Unique Micronutrient

Molybdenum (Mo) is the only metallic micronutrient that is less available on low pH soils. Mo is essential for nitrogen fixation by legumes and for nitrate conversion to amino acids.

In this podcast, Dr. Petrie tells us which crops are more sensitive to molybdenum deficiency, how to recognize Mo deficiency and how to treat it.

Listen now:

In this episode:

  • Molybdenum is associated with nitrogen; often Mo deficient plants may appear to be N deficient
  • Mo is required in very low rates
  • Soil application versus foliar application of Mo
  • Mo deficiencies are rare and occur mostly in acid soils
