YaraLiva® Calcium Nitrate is the top choice for fertilizing melons crops. YaraLiva supplies readily available nitrate-nitrogen, the form of nitrogen preferred by most crops. Nitrate-nitrogen promotes the uptake of other nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Calcium nitrate provides 100% water-soluble calcium. Calcium content in the fruit is key for fruit firmness and quality. Ca also helps crops minimize disease and environmental stresses such as heat and soil salts, while all ammonium-based nitrogen fertilizers create sites of acidity, which increase the risk of soil-borne disease infections such as fusarium.
Why Choose YaraLiva Calcium Nitrate Fertilizers
Improve Melon Quality and Tolerance to Diseases
Reduce Common Melon Fruit Defects
Field trials have shown that regular applications of soluble calcium are needed to ensure that the fruit gets the required calcium.
Improve Fruit Firmness & Prolong Shelf Life
Calcium builds strong cells walls and robust cell membranes, and calcium uptake during fruit growth and development is essential for improved fruit quality. Research shows that applying soluble calcium can increase watermelon firmness and increase shelf life.
Decrease Severity of Diseases
Calcium builds strong cells walls and robust cell membranes, which increase resistance to bacteria and fungi because the pathogens are less able to ‘digest’ the cell wall.
Fast Delivery of Critical Nutrients
Your crop's health relies on calcium
Calcium is an essential component in maintaining the cell wall structure of a plant. Inadequate availability of calcium can increase the susceptibility to diseases.
The effectiveness of calcium lies in its solubility
The effectiveness of calcium lies in its solubility. Some common sources of Ca fertilizer are not soluble, therefore are not taken up by the plants. YaraLiva Calcium Nitrate provides readily available calcium for optimal plant uptake.
Ensure continuous root growth with calcium
Calcium is involved in many physiological functions including water regulation and stress signaling. Calcium is responsible for sending drought signals from the roots to the upper canopy of the trees which causes the stomata on the leaves to close. Plants required a continuous supply of calcium for root growth. Nut roots do poorly in soils with low levels of calcium. A better root system means better access to nutrients and water.
Calcium Nitrate encourages root development
Not all nitrogen sources are the same. Research shows that calcium nitrate has a significantly better effect on root development than ammonium nitrate.
Protect Against Environmental Stresses
Calcium helps protect plants from heat stress
Heat stress damages plants by what is called “oxidative stress” which is due to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and the oxide ion (O2-). These ROS compounds damage plant membranes, proteins, and RNA and DNA. Calcium application help reduce the formation of these two key ROS species and the damage from heat stress.
Calcium helps plants overcome water stress
Crops suffering from water stress are damaged by Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and the oxide ion (O2-) that form in response to stress. These ROS compounds damage plant membranes, proteins, and RNA and DNA. Calcium reduces the concentration and activity of these ROS compounds and thereby reduces the damage from water stress.
Calcium helps crop roots overcome sodium damage
Sodium suppresses root growth and calcium helps crop roots overcome the sodium damage. Increasing calcium supply increased root growth at both low and high sodium concentration.
More calcium, less sodium
Research has shown that calcium helps suppress the uptake of sodium. Excessive sodium limits root development.
Don't miss your chance
Available calcium is crucial for root health. Better root system results in increased water and nutrient absorption. This is key for the upcoming hot summer months. Ensure your melon crops have readily available Ca with YaraLiva Calcium Nitrate for withstanding environmental stresses, prolonging shelf life, and increasing resistance to diseases.
