Dr. Steve Petrie is appointed to the Technical Advisory Sub Committee of the Fertilizer Research and Education Program

Dr. Steve Petrie, Yara’s Director of Agronomy for the Western US, has been appointed to the Technical Advisory Sub Committee of the Fertilizer Research and Education Program of the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Members of the TASC review and recommend fertilizer research and education programs to the CDFA Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board.  FREP funds and coordinates research and technical assistance to advance the environmentally safe use and handling of fertilizer materials within the agricultural sector.  FREP awarded about $2 million in grants last year.  Members of the committee have knowledge, technical and scientific expertise in the fields of fertilizing materials, agronomy, plant physiology, production agriculture, principles of experimental research, and environmental issues related to fertilizer material use. 

Dr. Petrie received his Ph.D. in soil science from Oregon State University and has held several positions in academia and industry before joining Yara in 2013.  He has conducted research on a wide range of crops including apples, blueberries, corn, hazelnuts, onions, potatoes, safflower, winter and spring barley and winter and spring wheat. Dr. Petrie has been author or co-author of more than 200 professional publications during his career.
