Support Citrus Growth with the Right Balance of N, K and Ca

April 2020

Cool spring rains have slowed the flush growth in citrus but once again the temperature will start climbing and the trees will begin a rapid period of growth. We have to be sure that these trees have the nutrients they need when they need them.

Calcium (Ca) uptake is greatest in the first 2-10 weeks after bloom and a constant supply is very important due to calcium’s immobile nature. Keep in mind that the best calcium is soluble calcium. It must be available in the soil solution in order for it to be absorbed by the plant for fruit development.

Potassium (K) is in high demand during this growth period. Citrus fruit often take up as much or more potassium as nitrogen. Nitrogen and potassium promote higher yields, uniform ripening and proper brix in fruit and vegetables.

YaraTera NITRAKAL has a balanced ratio of nitrogen and potassium. The nitrate forms of potassium and calcium promote rapid uptake even in inclement weather. The uptake of positively charged elements like calcium and potassium is enhanced when combined with a negatively charged nitrate ion.

Starting at bloom and throughout the first two months, YaraTera NITRAKAL supports developing fruit at a cellular level.
