Yara offers the most comprehensive range of crop nutrient products in the industry

Tree Fruits and Nuts

The YaraLiva™ calcium nitrate based fertilizers contain nitrate nitrogen, the key to optimum - precision feeding of tree crops. It is the form of nitrogen that is immediately available for uptake by tree roots.

Nitrate nitrogen is not residual. It goes to work with minimum moisture, supplies nitrogen when needed and then "gets out of the way." In contrast, ammonium nitrogen can remain in the soil to promote excessive vegetative growth at the expense of fruit yield, size and quality.

Peaches
Twenty-seven years of peach research by Dr. George Cummings, Professor Emeritus, North Carolina State University, has shown that all nitrogen fertilizers are not alike. When a liming program is initiated to raise soil pH above 5.9 and YaraLiva™ Tropicote™  is part of the fertilization program, peach trees respond favorably.

Based on his long-term research results, Dr. Cummings states:

"Calcium nitrate (YaraLiva™ ), either alone or in combination with potassium nitrate, was associated with the best tree growth, fruit yield, and highest foliar calcium levels compared with ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, and ammonium sulfate at these same nitrogen rates".

Calcium nitrate, in conjunction with a liming program, can also increase peach tree longevity, according to Dr. Cummings. To improve your quality, yield and profit, put Tropicote™  to work for you.

Ed Wittenbach, Belding, Michigan has used Tropicote™ fertilizer on his apples and peaches since 1974. "Less bitter pit, less lime use… Tropicote™ provides definite profit-making advantages. Tropicote's non-ammonium makeup allows for no-waste, split application flexibility. I can judge the crop and fit the second application to crop size and optimum timing."

Bob and Irvin, McCurry, Santee Orchards, Vance South Carolina.
"In terms of economics, the cost of Tropicote™ is insignificant based on all orchard costs and compared to benefits derived. High quality results are what we need; that's why Tropicote™  has earned its place in our fertility program."

Keith Warren, Traverse City, Michigan.
"We've had years of proof, Tropicote™  does the job!"
Keith Warren and his son Gary farm 120 acres of sweet and tart cherries. In their search to improve cultural practice, they decided to try Tropicote™. That was back in 1976 and they have used it ever since. "We were looking for something that would give our cherries a 'boost' after we had a good set – without interfering with 'wooding up'. In addition, our soil had been acid so Tropicote™  seemed worthy of a trial. It certainly was. You could tell to the row which trees had received Tropicote™  and which had received ammonium nitrate.

Since then, Tropicote™  has continued to give us faster action, firmer cherries of better color and improved crop management. We apply 250-400 lbs./acre of Tropicote™ in either single or split applications. It provides a quick response after bloom when we need it, and then gets out of the way. There's no flush of late growth that can occur with other fertilizers. The non-acid quality of Tropicote™  also helps us keep our soil pH where we want it.

As with any fertilizer application, consult soil tests, leaf analysis, agricultural extension office, or other advisory services to select a program to meet local crop and soil conditions.
