Fertilization of Citrus Trees

Below you find a quick reference guide of the benefits of YaraLivaTM products during different stages of the citrus crop.

Flower bud formation
Fall application of Trropicote™ after harvest allows the build-up of nutrients within plant tissues. Early application of Tropicote™  will provide critical levels of calcium and promote leaf flush two weeks earlier than other sources of nitrogen. Higher calcium levels in the flower reduces the incidence of flower drops, thus increasing potential fruit sets.

Fruit set
Fall application of Tropicote™  builds calcium reserves in the plant structure and early availability to the developing flowers and fruitlets. Higher calcium levels in the plant structure provide greater stress tolerance reducing fruitlet drop.

Fruit size
To ensure a larger fruit size at harvest, early calcium needs must be met. Sufficient levels of available calcium are necessary to provide enough building material for an increased number of developing fruit.

YaraLiva™ reduced nitrogen fertilizer program
Improve fruit quality, yield and tree vigor while applying reduced levels of nitrogen by applying at specific rates and times during the season.

If highest yield is your goal
As blooms begin to swell, apply 20% of your total N through Tropicote™ (30-40 lbs. N). Tropicote™ will provide the calcium levels critical for flower and bud retention. Ten to twelve weeks later, apply an additional 30% of total nitrogen (45-60 lbs. N). Tropicote™  will supply critical levels of calcium needed for optimal fruit and leaf development.  The remaining nitrogen will be provided from your standard fertilization program.

If highest yield and optimal quality is your goal
In addition to the above applications, from late September to early October, apply the final 30% (45-60lbs. N) of the season's total nitrogen through Tropicote™. It will enhance the final development of the fruit and provide reserves for you next crop.

Healthy trees also require other nutrients. Phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and other essential elements should be supplied at the rates recommended from the results of soil and tissue tests. Remember, sound irrigation management is essential to obtain the best results from good fertilizer program.
