Crop Nutrition and Environment

It is well known and proved by many scientific studies that a balanced crop nutrition has many positive effects on the environment.

  • A balanced crop nutrition will avoid any depletion of the soil which in turn prevent soil degradation and by this ensuring sustainable crop yields.
  • A balanced crop nutrition will ensure that the crop growth is not reduced by lack of any nutrient, this ensures that the overall use efficiency of all nutrients applied is as high as possible.
  • A high yielding crop under good nutritional management will normally lead to low environmental impact per ton of crop yield produced. This has been shown for carbon footprint, for nitrate leaching and for the water use efficiency of crop production.
  • Mineral fertilizers shall to be applied according to the crop demand. Any fertilizer application in excess of the crop demand will have negative impacts on the environment such as nitrate leaching or other losses.
